It’s been a long time coming and I feel like such a bad person for not doing it sooner but I’m finally waving au revoir to animal tested products. With so many modern advances and companies choosing to go cruelty-free there’s no excuse to be funding animal testing for cosmetics.
This was really spurred on by a recent Twitter argument between a blogger who was promoting L’Oreal as being a leading innovator in cruelty free products, and the rest of the world who won’t be fooled so easily. L’Oréal’s social media humans can try as hard as they might but when they say ‘we are cruelty free’ in one breath and ‘the vast majority of our products are cruelty free’ (i.e. animal testing is allowed when those products are sold in China) in the next, they lose all viability and deserve to be boycotted just for their damn lies.
After minimal research, there are many highstreet brands that are cruelty free, vegan and inexpensive such as H&M and Barry M and some higher end companies such as Charlotte Tilbury.
Here are some of my favourite products that I’ve found so far:
The eyeshadows are really creamy if but a little too crumbly. With a good eyeshadow primer they stay on all day and at £4.99 a pop, you can’t go far wrong.
Charlotte Tilbury is the brand every cosmetics brand should aspire to be. Personal, vegan, beautiful and premium. The most basic item to own from CT is probably her lipstick in Pillow Talk.
Lucy Watson has and always will be my favourite MIC personality and second favourite vegan (after Sally Ivens of course). To my absolute delight she has started her own cosmetics line which I can’t wait to try. The line consists of these lipsticks so far but hopefully will be expanding v soon!
There are hundreds of other products that I can’t wait to get my paws on. What are your fave cruelty free bits? Tell me what else I should try!
